October 25

Credit to my dad - this is basically a transcription of what he told me over the phone just now.

On October 25 1415, you have a small band of archers defeating a large army of knights, going up against impossible odds and winning.

Again, on the same day in 1854, you have a light brigade of cavalry attacking and capturing (for a brief period of time) Russian artillery in the Crimean campaign. They were the men who CHARGED up the hill into the gates of hell.

Then another, oh, almost 100 years later, in 1944, you have 5 small destroyers (“tin cans”) the only line of defense for a group of American carriers, set upon by a mighty force of Japanese cruisers and battleships in the battle of Leyte Gulf. They charge at the battleships; they’re hit, damaged, limping, but still they hold on. And the Japanese turn tail and run.

I wonder what day David met Goliath?
